X won't start

X won't start because of wrong monitor settings.
how do I get into the linux command line to make changes in xorg.conf
to change monitor settings, while x is trying to start, screen goes dark.
Is there a command i can pass to grub or kernel to get linux to go into Failsafe
beforeX starts .

Boot with the first fedora CD in rescue mode (linux rescue). Follow the prompts to mount your file system. You'll have to learn to use an editor, like VI. You'll want to edit your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file.

Start Fedora. When it tries to run X, the screen goes black you say, press Alt+Ctrl+backspace

This would kill the X. Now login and give the command
vi /etc/X11/xorg.conf

This would open the file. To edit the file, press the key 'a'
--INSERT-- would appear at the bottom left. Now you can edit the file. To save and quit press
Esc:wq

That is -- hit escape followed by colon( and then write wq.

To exit without saving
Escape!wq
