X.Org 6.8 on FC4, GATOS drivers work for TV-in

Just thought I would let everyone know that there is a great little patch for the X.Org 6.8.2-31 server that came as the default on my FC4 install. This patch for the GATOS (ATI tv-in/out drivers) works if you just get the binaries from here:

search Google with:
ati gatos drivers on xorg 6.8.1 lourens

to get the binaries since I can't post a URL yet

and follow the instructions for the binary install here:

- BACKUP!!!! your /usr/X11R6/ directory, or at least /usr/X11R6/lib/modules
- Unpack the tarball into /usr, and move the driver files so they end up in
/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/{dri,drivers,multimedia}
- Start X from command line

/home/user/>> X>&x.log

Wait for the picture to appear and press Ctrl-Alt-Backspace
to exit Xserver. Examine x.log for messages about Xv driver initialization
and what hardware it detected on your system.
Accelerated 3d: get drm-kernel modules from gatos site
Video capture: get km kernel module from gatos site

Programs:
avview - view TV, record video.
xine - view DVD

Thanks alot to Lourens and Martin! (I haven't tried capture/TV-out/Xine but TV-in with Avview-0.80.6 works---yeeehaaa). I have been trying for some time. Some small errors in my Xorg.log so the other things may not work.....try it out and let us know. I will post again once I try Xine/capture/TV-out.

Thanks,
Phizzzt

Do you know if the GATOS folks are going to officially support Xorg any time soon? I've been aching to get my AiW8500DV card working under Linux. :-/

Not sure when/if they will support X.Org officially.....can't see why they wouldn't since it is part of one of the larger Liniux distributions. We'll see I guess.

Did you try the above instructions with the 8500DV....should be r200, which means it will work with these instructions as my 7500 is the rv200 and still works. Anyways, let everyone know if you get this to work on a card other than the 7500.

MPlayer/Xine both work well. I still haven't tried capture/TV-out.....

Hi Phizzzt

Thanks for your post! I can watch tv on my linux box using avview for the first time,it's a FC3 with ATI all-in-wonder Rage128 Pro(32mb) card.

But there is still some problem,I found only 3~4 channel can play correct with sound, others had good picture, but no sound.I am from China, and the correct channel are:HK pearl(Freq 7668),CCTV-4(Freq 1220)

I compared channel settings on Windows2000,the format on wins is PAL-D,but avview has no sub selection for PAL format.

Any suggestion?

Sorry Eastwood,

I have no clue when it comes to sound problems with this type of card. I know that I had to fiddle with cranking the volume all the way up. That's all I know really.

Sorry again.
