wireless problems/questions

Hi,

I've now spent two days reading threads about wireless networking. I've found a lot of helpful posts, and have made progress, but I still can't get my wireless to work. Here's some specs;

Compaq R4000
Broadcom wireless 802.11 etc..
AMD 64 Athlon

Now, I've managed to get ndiswrapper installed, and I've managed to install the drivers fine from the files bcmwl5.inf and bcmwl5.sys. When I type "ndiswrapper -l" I get:

bcmwl5 driver installed, hardware present

But, when I do "dmesg | grep ndis"

I get the error saying that it requires 64-bit drivers.

So, I found the link to download the the proper driver, but when I install it and do "ndiswrapper -l", I get an error saying "Invalid driver!"

Well, I probably haven't spent as much time on this as some, but it's over 10 hours now, and I'm starting to feel some frustration.

Can anyone give me some suggestions?

Regards.

Hi jacksmash

You never really made this bit clear in your post so i will ask anyway. when I installed a newer version of ndiswrapper on my machine, it failed to work also until I used the newer version to re-install the windows driver again. if you have not yet tried that part give it a go.

Run /sbin/lspci -v and copy and paste the section about your card.
