will yum add kernel version or overwrite existing?

Hi all,

I saw this morning that a kernel update rpm package was available via yum. Will this overwrite the existing kernel? Is there anyway of forcing it to install it just as an option at boot time? Or does this happen automatically?

TIA

ive always used up2date for the kernel upgrade and it adds it to the grub folder and does not over write the old
unsure about yum...

I used yum yesterday to upgrade from 2.6.9-1.667 to 2.6.9-1.678_FC3. Yum added a new kernel file in /boot/grub and a new line to grub.conf. Nothing was overwritten and I can still boot the old kernel if I like.

nice!

Thanks for the feedback. I queued kernel to install with a couple more packages that had been updated and yum considered kenel a special case, installing it rather than updating it. Very nice!
