Question Wiki & Apache Virtual Hosts

I am trying to set up a Wiki server for an inhouse project and am having some problems with the addressing of the site (relative Linux newbie here)

We have a server called: hawaii.example.com listed in the DNS
we also have an alias wiki.example.com listed.

I have apache on FC4 serving the default Apache page for both addresses

If I install the mediawiki software in: /var/www/html/wiki
then I can access it at: http://wiki.example.com/wiki/

However I would like to have the wiki software accessed from the route link of http://wiki.example.com

I have tried to use system-config-httd to set up a name based Virtual Host, but have had little luck.

Any help?

verify in httpd.conf, the line DIrectoryRoot.
for VH, it's simple, don't forget to add all VH name in your host file (or DNS)

If you do some research on mod_rewrite, you can have all your requests to 'http://wiki.example.com/' actually be addressing 'http://wiki.example.com/wiki/', while the URL will still maintain 'http://wiki.example.com/'.

If you add something like:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule /(.*) wiki/$1

to your .htaccess file located in /var/www/html/wiki

I'm not a pro at mod_rewrite, but I think the above is in the right direction.

Otherwise, I have my simplified apache virtualhosts notes.
