Why won't this refresh

Hello,

I am new to linux........ So i hope to receive a step my step answer.............

A friend of mine suggested to use linux and i am trying to move towards it. I have successfully installed linux ( i guess) , but........... encountered a problem!!! The problem is that it won't refresh. Suppose i click on some icon, then the window will open but the content inside won't be refreshed. if i right click then the area occupied by the context menu will be refreshed and i can see what is below that but rest doesn't refresh.

In case it is necessary, i have 30GB hard drive , 128MB RAM , i have a dual boot system : i have Win XP in C and Fedora is installed in D . i have made 3 partitions : 200 MB for swap, 3GB for \home and 7 GB for \ ,

Do suggest the solution to this problem and help me move towards linux

which version of linux are you trying to install?
if are trying fedora core 4, you just have too little RAM and swap space.
you need at least 256 MB of RAM and 512 MB of Swap.

One more thing-Fedora is never installed in D:, that's how Microsoft names the partitions. Fedora calls it something like hda5 and grub calls it something like (hd0,4)

hello,

it is fedora core 3

and i meant by D as the second partition . it does shows something like you said when seen from linux

in case the reason is due to less RAM , how can i turn it into non graphics mode. will it still require more RAM for that

No it won't take any more RAM.

login as root and edit the file /etc/inittab.
Go straight to the bottom and find the following lines:

# Run xdm in runlevel 5
x:5: once:/etc/X11/prefdm -nodaemon

change the 5 to 3 (so it runs in run level 3), it reads

# Run xdm in runlevel 3
x:3: once:/etc/X11/prefdm -nodaemon

reboot and you are done.

But I need to check if the problem is due to RAM

All that you need to do for accessing windows partitions is make an entry in your /etc/fstab.

He's talking about linux partitions in windows and ur doing the reverse

towardslinux,
what icon ru clicking and what window isnt refreshing. If ur talking about konqueror/nautilus (like explorer from windows), u dont have a refresh option in the context menu. But hitting F5 will refresh. On the desktop context menu though, u do have a refresh option

I am sorry, what I said something very wrong. Its the initdefault entry you have to change. That I mentioned is certainly going to make everything hang.

But I thought someone would slash me before I would realise that myself.

I need to be more contious when replying.
