ok ty for ur help im gonna run through install again and im gonna let it do what it wants too this time and ill let u know what happens.thank you again.
ok installed again and put grub on mbr hda according to installer it only saw FC4 ok in ubuntu i went back into search for grub first file i looked into is labeled [grub-menu.lst [read only] (/usr/share/doc/memtest86+/examples)-gedit] and heres what it says when opened :

to me it looks same and its still a read only file. and thats really all i see that i would think would be boot grub files. im gonna reboot see if i didnt change anything in bios by mistake that its not seeing hdb at all.
well after mandrake 2005 i had to reinstall ubuntu anmd the ubuntu grub caught it. for some reason when i did that with FC4 ubuntu never caught it and vice versa.
