If you want to compare Edgy to Fedora than you should compare-it to Fedora Core 6 and not 5.

I'm not sayings that you are trying to be Jehova Witness, what I'm saying is that all you Ubuntu users are acting as if you were.

.

Thus my question about the Live CD... I didn't know they had a Live CD of Fedora, I've tried to find them before and was never able to...

The live disc I have is FC 5 DVD not CD and not FC 6

I still have yet to order a FC 6 so I don't know the difference between 5 and 6. It sure appeared through my evaluation of Ubuntu vs. FC 5 that they were the same (GNOME) except that FC 5 had a lot more applications preinstalled. With Ubuntu installed I have had mulitple problems from the get go. With Linspire 5.0 and now Freespire they seem to be flawless compared to Ubuntu. Freespire recognized all my hardware without a hitch. I can't say that for Ubuntu dapper. I don't know if Edgy would be much different. I wonder if FC 6 would be more friendly in this respect.

Obviously, there are so many different versions of Linux for a reason. I'm sure you've read here, that if 1 distro could be declared the best, we'd all use it. FC5(and I can only presume, FC6), is a great distro, I really like it. All the pre-installed packages, etc, really doesn't matter to me, as with Ubuntu, Packages can be easily installed from the repositories with little effort.

My experience with Linspire/Freespire, isn't good, so I likely wouldn't consider either of those.

I wouldn't hesitate to try FC6, if for some reason I was unhappy with Ubuntu 6.10

For the Fedora Core 6 live discs, go to the Fedora Unity Project website.

I'm new to Linux and the only distribution I've tried so far is Fedora Core 6 (I once tried a version of Ubuntu designed to run CNC machining software, but alas I never got it to install).

I found the installation a bit confusing for the way my computer was set up, but eventually that was all sorted out. As for Fedora taking forever, I didn't experience any problems of the sort. I didn't actually clock the install time (I did a complete install which required all 5 CDs) but it felt to take around 30-45 minutes and I'm far from having a top of the line computer.

Overall I'm fairly satisfied with Fedora Core 6 (which is so far my only Linux experience, so I may not know what is truly out there in Linux land). I'm still dependant on Windows for all the softwares that aren't supported by Linux distributions, though I find Fedora fairly useful and interesting (though, that may just be because it's something new to me).

FWIW I just fool with Fedora. I tried it after a test install of ASP Linux which is based on Fedora. I have tried Fedora 4 and now Fedora 6. I find it to be easy to install and pretty fast. It has a good selection of software. Security updates work well. Some of their defaults are not what I would choose. My current Fedora 6 is only awaiting my decision of multimedia support. I usually prefer Mplayer with needed codecs but I am investigating other choices.
Good Luck

At the current moment I am just playing with Fedora as well. I don't have any extraordinary reason/need to use any sort of Linux distribution, though I'm sure the things I learn from it can be well used in the future.

In my current stage I am fooling around with Fedora via the GUI and the various programs/utilities included. Sooner or later, I'll get to breaking down Fedora from the inside out. The sense of freedom in Fedora is spectacular IMO.

So far, I've managed to avoid 'breaking' anything to the point where a reinstall would be required .

Other key differences between Fedora and Ubuntu

--Fedora has SELinux, which is better for security (this may or may not interest you). A lot of people have had problems with this in the past, but it's gotten much better, so I've heard.

--Fedora is more strictly FOSS (open source) than Ubuntu is

--Fedora will include only wireless drivers that it thinks are any good. Ubuntu includes all (?) of them no matter what their quality is (and if the native driver is going to be poor, unless you're interested in helping develop it, you might as well use Ndiswrapper).

--Fedora comes with more packages, e.g. has gnome *and* kde, which is so much more convenient than hours and hours of post-install configuration to install everything that ubuntu, on one cd, does not include.

As to the graphics software you listed:

...not sure how good the alternatives are on linux (or whether there are any) unfortunately. Linux has flash-player, but not Macromedia studio, etc. I think...
try googling it

Try installing windows version of Studio MX - it works with Crossover office or Wine

How so?

If you partition your hard drive first with e.g. the gparted live CD, then install fedora onto the free space on your hard drive, it shoulod be ok. Don't forget to have allocated enough free space when using the live CD, and also to install a swap partition (and a FAT32 share partition, if required)
