I don't have vim in my menu either. I do have Emacs though.

vim is vi improved; it's terminal cli based editor, but extends vi eg handles longer line lengths coloured syntax editing, show cursor position (ie char num on line, line num) etc etc.
Just open a terminal and type
vi
or
vim
