What wireless ethernet device works with FC4?

Has anyone had a success story with regards to purchasing a wireless ethernet card and having it work with ease (preferably no ndiswrapper, but will use if necessary) within Fedora Core 4?

Wireless Devices Fedora Core 4

I am in the same boat. Looking for a Wireless Card that will work with Fedora Core 4.

If I come across something I will share as well.

I spoke with Linksys directly and they stated they do not support Linux. However I know there are .org's out there that provide Free Distribution type drivers.

Any hew...Anyone out there have any experience in this??

Wireless Devices

Well I am really pumped. I just installed Ubuntu's latest release on a Dell D600 running Intel Wireless Pro 2100 3A Mini and it works great! Then I wanted to try installing it on a Dell C640 with a Cisco 350 Wireless Card and with a couple of tweaks (no downloads or libraries needed) it works Great!

I didn't have to go out and search the world for whatever. The look and feel is perfect. I am so new to this but believe that Ubuntu is "Debian" based linux? At any rate, like I said, I am new and have a lot to read and learn.

For now, I am going to use the Ubuntu for my school projects in Linux and continue to play with it. When I get some extra time, I will go back to FC 4 and try installing the Cisco linux drivers and libraries and see if i can get it work.

see ya,

SF

p.S. I didn't understand *bump* -sorry

I assume that you are looking for PCMCIA or PCI cards that you can plug into the computer. Then I do not have very much experience with recent cards. I have used Orinoco cards, but only the 802.11b (11 Mbit/s) variant and they are not exactly new.

But if you happen to use the Intel 2200 (802.11bg) or Intel 2915 (802.11abg), then I can happily report that they work well. These are integrated (or possibly MiniPCI) chips for Intel Centrino brand laptops. Drivers can be found here: http://ipw2200.sourceforge.net/

Init,
Thanks, I don't have the 2200. For some reason the lot of computers mostly had the 2200 but mine had the 2100 3A which Intel on their site says they do not support for Linux. I dug around the www.sourceforge.net community but only saw for the 2100 (not 3A) and the 2200 and so on. Not sure what the history of the 2100 3A card is or how prominent it is out there but I have a feeling that it can't be too popular.

At any rate, I really like the look and feel of FC4 but the Untubu distro is pretty kicking as well and I don't need to spend time configuring etc. Not that taking the time to do so isn't valuable because that is how I learned Windows.

see ya,

SF

wireless card

Hello ,

I am actually writing this message from my Laptop that has Fedora Core 4 with a Dlink DWL-G122 wireless card. It was not that tough to setup. It does have a few hiccups every now and then but all I have to do is Take out the Card and re insert it back in. But I also had these same hiccups in windows.

I got this card from Circuit City but I think you can get it at Best buy , or Office depot also. Just make sure you get the right revision. Not sure if it will tell on the box but here is a website to show where to look on the card
