How the hell do I use Fedora?

I can't install shit. I don't know what the fuck to do, and no one else seems to know what the hell to do.

What exactly is the problem(s)? How far have you gotten? Do you really want to know or do you just want to cuss some more?

Sorry, excuse my language, I am just tired of asking for help whether it be in a chat room or message boards, and people being rude to anyone who is new to Linux and not wanting to help them. I apologize.

My problems :

1. My sound. When I first boot into Fedora, it works fine. The only application I use when I first boot is GAIM, and I can hear the message sounds working just fine. Then it stops. Nothing after that. BUT, when I open TVTime, my sound comes back, as I can hear the TV just fine. BUT, when I close TVTime, the sound continues to play. I have no idea why, I have no idea how to fix it.

I asked someone in an IRC channel for some help and they bombarded me with questions about my sound card, my sound server and other things, and when I said I didn't know, as I was new to Linux, they told me I had no reason to be using the OS if I didn't know how to use it.

I would really appreciate some help with this. Once again, I apologize for my previous words.

If you know the maker of your sound and TV card that could help, but if not then send us the output of lsmod. You can do this by:

1. Opening up a command termninal
2. type su hit enter
3. type the password for root hit enter
4. type /sbin/lsmod hit enter
5. Copy and paste the output of this command to this post


This will hopefully show the modules (like a driver) that your sound card is using. Then maybe someone here will have that same card and know what the problem is. :)

Gaim sounds in Fedora
 

I'm a newbie myself and don't know much about working with sounds in Linux. However, I'm also using Gaim with Fedora. Initially, my Gaim sounds doesn't work. Just by trying out different options I was able to make it work. I went to Preferences > Sounds > under Sound Method, I choose ESD. This is the only way I could make sound work for Gaim in Fedora in my box.

Again, this might not work for you (you could try out the other sound methods). Might be worth a try. I think our sound configuration is similar:

Another problem I encountered is no sound for any application when I logged in to a new user. I almost thought sound is screwed up for this user. It turned out the volume level is set at zero. To check the volume, go to Main Menu > Sound & Video > Volume Control.
