Very strange issue with Firefox 1.5

At the bottom of the downloads window it lists the folder where downloads will be stored. In past versions and on my non-Linux boxes pressing that button opens the folder. For some bizarre reason when I do this in FF 1.5.0.1 under FC5 it opens Cervisia and tells me that it isn't a CVS folder. I've never used Cervisia before and have done nothing to customize FF in any way that would have anything to do with CVS. Does anyone else see this? I've used FF for a long time on many versions of Linux and windows and this has completely baffled me.

Which window manager are you using? Do you have any download related extensions installed? If so, which ones. If not, look at "Download Sort" and "Download Manager Tweak."

Check your "file associations" for Cervisa settings. (A "system" or "configuration" setting in most desktop managers.")

Note that FF tends to open thing in Fedora using GNOME Nautilus, even if you are not using GNOME as your window manager. This can cause additional problems, since Nautilus is used by GNOME to do the whole window display, and your preferred window manager will be preempted until you kill the Nautilus process. (Of course, if it's using Cervisa for you, that not a problem, eh?)

Hmmmmm...

The problem happened with both Gnome and KDE so I started looking at extensions. The only one loaded was DOM inspector so I disabled that and nothing changed. Then I temporarily removed the extensions directory and then presto everything worked. Put the extensions directory back and everything is still fine. I am baffled but happy it is fixed. Thanks for the suggestions.

So much for fixed. It appears that was only a temporary fix. It is back to happening again even with all extensions deleted. I'm using the Fedora installed Firefox so I'm just totally at a loss. I guess I'll try deleting and/or reinstalling Firefox and Cervisia and see what happens.

O.K., I think I know what your problem is. But I can't see how to fix it.

The problem: You've got your default application for file management set to "Cervisa." This used to be done in one of the KDE/GNOME "settings" options, but I can no longer find it.

I discovered this by creating a "Test" profile for Firefox and clicking on the "open folder" button. For me, that opened the folder in Emacs, which I realized was what I'd set the default to be back when I was using FC3. "Ah", I said, "I'll just change that, and all will be well." But I could not find the setting to change. I searched in both the KDE "Control Center" and the GNOME "Preferred Applications," but neither had the setting I needed to change.

(Of course, Emacs, unlike Cervisa, works fine, so its not a problem for me.)

Now I'd never noticed this in Firefox since the two extensions I mentioned "mask" the behavior. (And improve downloading.)

So, bottom line, that's you problem, but I don't know how to fix it. Sorry.

Oh, this may be a worse problem for you, since the "default manager" setting is used by other applications in addition to Firefox. Hopefully someone else will reply to this thread with a fix. (Oh, while I had Emacs open, I went through my home directory to see if I could find the setting in some hidden directory, but failed to find it.)

Thanks for the info. I'm really curious why I'm only seeing this in Firefox though. Nowhere else do I see cervisia doing anything. It is alwsys Nautilus or Konqeror doing file manger stuff. I uninstalled the kdevelop and kdesdk packages to get rid of cervisia and everything was fine. When I reinstalled them it was back to the problem again.

Same crazy behavior here. There is a bug report in bugzilla.redhat.com (Bug 18837)

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla....cgi?id=188373

Other than uninstalling kdevelop, the cure is to edit /usr/share/applications/kde/cervisia.desktop and remove line "MimeType=inode/directory".

Thanks for the reply. I tried that and it didn't change anything. In the popup window it says if you dind't mean to open cervisia you can change a view setting in konquerer. I thought I checked everything there, but I'll look again.

Hmmm after I updated to 1.5.0.2 the problem still existed. I added the flashblock extension and removed the language packs and now it works. Too weird.
