using fedora to connect to m$ terminal server

I am trying to use linux for a clients dummy terminals to connect to a m$ terminal server
I know it is redundant but he has a couple of windows only programs and would like to save some money on his network setup. This way he can use his existing machines it is a good set up but i cant get sound to work. Windoze keeps giving me errors. I can do the music thing with linux but need to get to some vmail program that just runs on windows. any information is helpful right now the work around is to just give the receptionist a windows machine but it is a personal mission. He has saved some bucks so he is happy and the machines dont cry about anything. At some point we will have them do everything in linux most like open office already lol.

thanks in advance
JB

Try out "rterminal"

Well, here's one simple way:
Code:
yum install rdesktop
Them (assuming you've got samba configured, and can access the shared files on the remote server)
Code:
rterminal <server>
should bring up the login screen on the remote server. (There are options that you can use to automate the login.)

I have my remote server mapped in /etc/hosts, so all I needed to do was
Code:
rterminal \\tss-1
There are some (minor) problems with rterminal (e.g., disconnect and logout don't work), and the fonts take some getting use to, but I'd suggest you give it a shot.

Oh, I should admit that I'm not an expert here: I just tried "rterminal" after I read your post, so my total use amounts to about 2 min.

i use terminal service client
works just fine
just cant get sound to work from the windoze box
i can connect by name or ip address
but their vmail program is some windoze crap and she needs to check the bosses every once in a while
but it isnt a big deal right not just want to make the system perfect
but my client is 100 percent happy

Opps. I goofed! In my post, the application is "rdesktop," not "rterminal." Once my fingers started typing, my mind disconnected.

Sorry.

Anyhow, I just tried
Code:
rdesktop -rsound
, and played a MP3 file. It was a little starnge, though. My XP system is set to default to Real Player for sound, and that didn't work. However the MS Media Player seemed just fine.

No problem. Oh, I've got the sound working with Real Player now, too. The problem was that Real Player wants better color depth then the default, and refuses to rum when the color depth is 8. (Even when playing a MP3 sound file. ???)

Anyhow, the "-a 24" command line option fixed that.

My full command line is now:
Code:
rdesktop -u Peter\ Trenholme -p - -a 24 -g 1024x768 \\tss-1
Next, like you, I'll set up a launcher in KDE.
