Question using emacs editor with fedora core 4

I have a problem....I think it's very stupid but I can't solve it. Now I explain:
I wrote a Fortran program with fedora core3, now I installed fedora core4 and when I opened my file with emacs editor I couldn't modify it. The editor told me that the "buffer is read-only" can I change this property? If I can't write I can't work!!!!! help me, please!

chmod og=rw filename.extension
That's the layout. So, for example, if you wanted any user to be able to edit "mydog.txt", you could do that with:
$ su
# chmod og=rw mydog.txt
The chmod command means "change the mode by which users can access xxx.yy" (or something to that effect). The "og" bit stands for "group" and "other" (also known as "world"), and the "=rw" bit means that the users specified (group and other) can all read and write to that file. For more info, check out this chmod tutorial. HIH,
