usb hard disk

hi guys,
i'm having a problem with my external usb hard disks boxes. When trying to make a backup (3GB) it starts copying but after some minutes (maybe 5) it stops with an error like this: "file system - read only"

- the usb HD is autommaticaly unmounted
- the file system has the right permisions

i do logoff + logon + restart the copy, and it continues from the point it stops before :-(

i am afraid my system is not so stable.

i have fedora 9 ... i386

does any one have idea whats going on ?

thanks in advance ...
hector

What format is on the usb hard disks. I know some of the older MS formats have a file limit (2Gb?).
