USB flash drive problems in FC3.

I have a SanDisk 512MB Cruzer USB Micro flash drive which gives me the following problems in FC3.

After umounting the device using 'umount /mnt/usb' pulling the device produces dmesg output:
Code:

SELinux: initialized (dev sda1, type vfat), uses genfs_contexts
usb 1-4: USB disconnect, address 7
ehci_hcd 0000:00:1d.7: qh 40429080 (#0) state 1
sda : READ CAPACITY failed.
sda : status=0, message=00, host=7, driver=00
sda : sense not available.
sda: Write Protect is off

sda: assuming drive cache: write through

scsi5 (0:0): rejecting I/O to dead device
scsi5 (0:0): rejecting I/O to dead device

sda : READ CAPACITY failed.
sda : status=0, message=00, host=0, driver=04
sda : sense not available.
scsi5 (0:0): rejecting I/O to dead device
sda: Write Protect is off
sda: Mode Sense: 00 00 00 00
sda: assuming drive cache: write through

Buffer I/O error on device sda, logical block 0

Buffer I/O error on device sda, logical block 262143
scsi5 (0:0): rejecting I/O to dead device
Buffer I/O error on device sda, logical block 0
unable to read partition table

When the device is reconnected I get the following dmesg output:
Code:

usb 1-4: new high speed USB device using address 8
scsi6 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
Vendor: SanDisk  Model: Cruzer Micro      Rev: 2033
Type:  Direct-Access                      ANSI SCSI revision: 02
SCSI device sda: 1024000 512-byte hdwr sectors (524 MB)
usb 1-4: control timeout on ep0in

And then I am unable to mount the device. The only solution I have found is to reboot the machine.

As a side note, When I first attach the usb drive, I have a removable disk icon appear on my desktop. If I then umount the drive and pull it the icon is removed. If I then re-connect the usb drive again, the icon does not appear... I have a feeling that I am not correctly removing the device.. Is there something more than umount-ing it required? On windows machines, I if I ask to 'safely remove' the device, the light on the flash drive goes out before I remove it. On Linux I have not found a way to make the light go off before I remove the drive, can this be done?

Cheers..

I'm having a similar problem on FC2. I just loaded FC3 to get around this. It sounds like it won't work.
The same pen drive works on my gentoo box. I'm looking for a cure too. If I find something, I'll post it.
