USB Flash Disk
I used to stick the USB flash disk in the usb port of FC3 Desktp, and it will be mounted automatically.
Some time I have to check /etc/fstab to see if it has been listed or not, because normaly it comes under /dev/sda, the I have to mount it manually to make available on the desktop area. I tried to use my friend's PC with FC1, and I plugged the USB Flash disk, it has not been mounted automatically , and when I checked /etc/fstab, I could not see it in the list. Is there any configuration I have to be aware of it? |
FC 3 was the first version that supported udev etc. For FC1 you can add the device manually in /etc/fstab and GNOME will know about it. You can then right-click the desktop, select Disks and Mount the drive. There's another way of setting this up, but just adding the line in /etc/fstab works.

This explains the correct procedure:
http://cyberelk.net/tim/usb-storage.html Step 3 under "...but that didn't work". You add a line in /etc/hotplug/usb.distmap, and that edits /etc/fstab. I originally suggested editing /etc/fstab yourself. The version of GNOME in FC1 reads /etc/fstab and lists the Disks for you to manually load (as described in the tutorial above). |
