usb drives

to the more experienced
I am wondering if this is possible
Can you use the usb drives as memory since they run faster than most memory
i am trying ot do a basic fedora install into a car computer

one idea was to run a distribution on one usb drive
and run the music on another
but then the speed of the machine would be comprimised where i wanted to mount the motherboard cause of the size of the memory
but just wondering about the usb drive

i am a noob but very ambitious
lol still having problems with dvd playback

thanks in advance

I would think that the best you would be able to get out of a usb drive is swap space. Someone correct me if I am wrong. I believe the kernel is still accessing this through a form scsi access.

ok i was fearing that
lol didint want to cut the dash of a new car
but well what my wife doesnt know she cant pitch one about right
lol. Thanks for the info
i will just do it the way i was in the first place

this may be a little our of place but is there a way to shorten the boot and shutdown times
i dont know if instant is possible but like maybe in half up and down
if not i will have to find somesort of time switch that when you cut the car off battery power last for a minute or two.

thanks again
