upgraded to Fedora core
 

Hi All. I'm relatively new to Linux. Had Redhat 8 alongside win2000. Upgraded RH to Fedora core. Error message says "Fatal Server Error. PAM authentication failed, cannot start xserver. Perhaps you don't have console ownership" HELP!!:(

You mention upgrade - first, did you really do an update or upgrade install, or did you completely replace your Red Hat 8 system?

Next, can you tell us more about when you are seeing this message come up?

Thanks for getting back. During the install sequence, I'm offered to either complete install or upgrade existing Linux. Opted for the upgade.

On boot up, the system goes through the normal sequence of screen info, but then halts at the error message, and cycles through the same every few seconds.

I can probably offer more info, but unsure what?? I'm thinking of deleting the Linux and trying a new install from the Fedora discs.

Any suggestions are appreciated.
