Upgrade to Fedora 11 from 10 is not working
Hi,
I have upgraded to Fedora 11, not it is not working. When it starts it stuck on message Code: Code:
Virbr0 : Starting userspace STP failed, Starting user Kernal Also one of service related to nvidia graphics card fails. when i have logged in using f3 console and tried yum to update, yum is also not working, The Strange thing is, my groub still has option of fedora 10, it is working but lot of application in it are not working. Please help me out!! |
Usually better to do a fresh install, not an upgrade.

I was skeptical, but curious so I let it do the upgrade for me to see what happened. My system is now non-bootable and my former grub entries have been wiped out. I'm going to try to repair it just for the sake of my edification, but will probably end up doing a clean install. |
Yeah, some people claim to have managed via the pre-upgrade option etc, but from what I've read and my experience with earlier Fedoras I'd definitely go clean. Good way to remove all the cruft that builds up as well.

I got my upgrade cleaned up after working on it most of the day. I have an HP desktop system with the 82Q35 on board dual head video card and two monitors, a 22' and a 19'. For some reason, even though it worked fine in FC10, X failed to start and left the system unusable. Once I set default run level to init 3, it was just a matter of trial and error repairing xorg.conf.

i also go for fresh installation !! :d
trying using su -c 'yum install upgrade' |
These problems are not necessarily related to the upgrading process, they can just as well being problems that would show up even with fresh installs. I remember that the initial Fedora 10 installation had some blatant problems with yum and the network GUI tool on a fresh install. This led to the situation that the official FC 10 install images had to be replaced with updated versions on some sites. My advice is rather to wait after each new Fedora release for a few weeks until most severe reported problems are corrected, and only then doing the upgrade or the fresh install.
Fedora is a bleeding edge distro, so this is something that we have chosen to live with. Linux |

I like to live dangerously. :-) |
I tried upgrading from 10 to 11 with preupgrade - yum was fried, with a lot of other stuff. Not as bad as what happened to you, but it still sucked. I'm running FC 11 now, and it's just fine. I'd say just go ahead and install it - if you want to live more dangerously (some have said Fedora 11 isn't dangerous enough) than use the Rawhide repos - they're not *too* unstable... ;)

We can use yum update but what if the internet speed is 256/128Kbps(i.e max 30KB down speed), so it will take complete 1 day to upgrade and it is not feasible, so download the iso is only option.
Thanks Prashant Saraf |
^^^yeah thats why i download the iso and do a fresh install

Another 10->11 problem
O.k., here's another gotcha' that I have encountered after upgrading from 10->11
Have an Epson Workforce 600. Cups 1.4b3 (what was installed with the upgrade) Trying to print a message from Thunderbird, or trying to print the test page: error message: "/usr/lib/cups/filter/rastertogutenprint.5.2 failed" System worked fine before the upgrade. Suggestions? Thanks, Bill Lee |
maybe there's a CUPS plugin/extension you need... have you installed gutenprint?
|
Yes, gutenprint is installed.
This is a plain vanilla upgrade from (a working) F10 to F11. |
