Updating between core releases

Hi!

I'm a Slackware user at the moment and have been for about 18 months... I am very happy with it but I would like to try a 64bit distro as I've just upgraded. So, I'd like to cross to the other side of the fence and try Fedora as it has a full 64bit ISO available! My question is about updating though:

If I install FC3-test3 now, and then I run up2date in a few weeks when FC3 is final, will I have FC3-final on my computer.... i.e. will I have all the lastest and stable packages & bugfixes since test3?

My question may seem silly, but I'm used to using swaret which does all of this. I'd like to have a similar tool in Fedora!

Many thanks,
Dez

Don't do that. It's an unsupported and untested upgrade path. Once the final release is published, you should install from scratch or upgrade from a previous Fedora Core release. That's the only way you will benefit from any installer post-installation fixes, or bug fixes in packages which only have an effect if they are installed for the first time. It can also happen that package versions between FC3T3 and FC3 are downgraded due to stability concerns.

So, don't misunderstand this message. Using up2date or yum or apt-get to upgrade from FC3T3 to FC3 may work. But there is no guarantee that you will end up with something that matches FC3 fully.
