Unhappy Updated F18- lost my display

Greetings, I am running F18 LXDE and did an update. It installed probably more than I wanted or needed right now. But, when I did a reboot the video display goes blank screen before I reach the log on screen window. What does this mean and how can I go back to where I was? Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks, RJ

did you by chance install the nvidia or AMD/ATI propitiatory video drivers
the nvidia.run or AMD/ATI.bin

if you replaced the opensource graphics driver with the one from their website(s)
you MUST reinstall it after EVERY kernel,x11,xorg,mesa (and possible freeGLUT ) update
anyone of those will kill the installed driver
