update in progress?

Just installed FC 6 and all went well. Forgot to install KDE so tried to install software and getting a message that update in progess or that another program is running.
cannot find anything going on.
Is this a known error in the install?
cannot do yum from a terminal either. something about a program is already running.
thanks in advance for any help in this

No, that's normal. A fresh install of FC6 will run its auto-updater first and it's impossible to install anything else because you can't run two software management applications at the same time. And yes, you don't see the auto-updater straightaway: it is scanning all of your system and it tends to take quite some time before it comes up with the results. Only patience will help - or turning off the auto-updater.

Thank you for the response. In many distro's it gives you a choice to do the updates and I don't think FC6 did so I guess this is expected. I have been on several others and just came back to FC.
