Unable to update FC5 & FC6
Hello, could anyone help me please?
I am trying to install FC5 or FC6 on my PC - the instalation works fine, but after I want to update it with "yum update" it seems to work but after while it aborts with this error message:
Fatal Python error: GC object already tracked
Aborted
Fedora core 4 works fine.
My PC is:
Athlon 64 3500+
MSI K8N Neo4
ATI Radeon X1600XT
1GB RAM
I couldn't find anything on google. Is it possible that I am the only one with this problem?
Thanks for your help.

well sounds like a nasty python error, are there any more messages other than that? the GC (Garbage Collector i assume???) error could easily be explained by something higher up, or if not could look at manually updating python and yum from the yum repos directly.

No there are no other messages. I have tried to download updates of YUM and PYTHON directly from the fedora webpage, but without luck - the problem persists.

Python GC errors FC5 & 6
I have an Athlon 64 3500+ and the same problem, though it is intermittent. Once it starts though it is very difficult to get it to work without loging out and back in. It *seemed* to get worse when I installed more RAM. Happens in FC5 and FC6 and to all python code, not just YUM/YUMEX/PUP.
definitely makes things tricky as python is used a lot in Fedora.
the sort of error message is:
yum check-update
python: Modules/gcmodule.c:240: update_refs: Assertion `gc->gc.gc_refs == (-3)' failed.
Aborted
I hope that gives someone a hint as to what the problem is?
