Trying to slim it down... "kernel panic"

I tried to slim down Fedora Core 4 by modifying some files.
And it gives me the following error:
mkrootdev: label /1 not found
mount: erro 2 mounting ext3
ERROR opening /dev/console!!!!: 2
error dup2'ing fd of 0 to 0
error dup2'ing fd of 0 to 1
error dup2'ing fd of 0 to 2
switchroot: mount failed: 22
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
And its stop here. Can someone help me?

Boot with the Installion media in rescue mode an undo your changes or restore from backup.

You just might want to install the working kernel again.

I'm not sure what you thought you would accomplish. It is not recommended to manually modify files unless you are sure you know what you are doing.

Looks like you've messed up with grub.conf.
If you can get boot in like the previous post mentioned, looks like that's the first place to fix.
