trouble with NIC configuration
 

I am trying to get this fedora 7 to connect to the internet something is going on with it........ Can someone help?
Do I need to manually type in settings........ I am on DHCP with cable Internet ........ it should automatically pick up the settings I am having trouble can someone help please................

If you are using DHCP then you shouldn't need to enter anything manually except to tell it to use DHCP.

Are you getting any error messages or just no Internet?

If you aren't seeing any error messages, would post the output of the command

Make sure you have the rest of the equipment hooked up and powered on before booting the computer.

Do you also have any version of MS Windows on this computer>

yeah I do have windows Vista ......... I run it as dual boot................ is that a good thing to run it as dual boot????? with 2 operating systems...........

Its fine to run it as dual boot. Whatever suits your purposes.

Or at least that is the way it should be. The reason I asked is because a while back there was a problem with a (Linux) eithernet driver that would not work after a machine had run MS Windows. The MS software would leave the ethernet hardware in a state the Linux driver couldn't handle properly. I had thought this was fixed, but I recent thread I've replied to makes me not so sure.

Because this is so easy to test, I recommend you do so. What you need to do is unplug your computer. Simply turning it off is not sufficient. If the computer is a laptop, remove that battery. Leave it unplugged for maybe half a minute. You want to make sure it is plenty long enough for all of the circuitry to discharge. When you plug it back in, boot directly into Fedora and see if your problem has been fixed. If not, you probably don't have this problem and we need to troubleshoot further. In which case, please post what I requested in post #2.

EDIT: Since you are not networked yet, you might find it convenient to redirect the output of the command and (if you can) move it to the Windows partition or else copy it to a floppy or pendrive to get it either into Windows or to another computer you post from. To redirect:

Hey Man Fedora is running fine now I just basically there was several versions or updated versions to pick or choose from on the fedora boot list so I figured out which version I needed to choose its running smooth now ............. thanks again Man .......
