Trouble creating installation disks for FC5
I am trying to install Fedora Core 5, but the install said my disks contained errors.
The following is a description of the steps I followed in installing these disks.
I have installed many different Linux distributions from downloaded ISO files, but I have never had this problem before. Does anyone have any idea of what might explain why there are errors on these disks? |
The media check is known to be buggy and there are lots of previous threads about this. Skip the media test and see if the installation works fine. Since FC1 I have only ever passed the media check a couple of times but the installation always works out fine.

Did u do these ??
1) Double-check ur written cds after burning them 2) Check for scratches, dust or physical damages to the cds 3) Make sure there are no reading problems for your cdrom drive 4) Tried burning them again |
I have a similar problem. I have downloaded FC5 i386 CD isos and burnt them with K3B. The sha1sums check out ok. Ran the disk check from the install utility and discs 2 - 5 are fine but disc 1 failed. Ran install anyway and it failed after 5 mins - could not read the vim package saying the install medium is corrupt.
So, I downloaded iso 1 from another mirror and tried again. Exactly the same error at the same point in the installation. Repeated another 2 times from 2 separate mirrors and exactly the same error each time - it fails at exactly the same point. This leads me to think that it is the original image that is corrupt although other people have successfully used these images. Going to have one more go but this time I'll copy the iso to my XP partition and use nero. If that fails, looks like i'll have to send off for a CD set. Bummer!!!! Andy |
If the sha1sums are okay but you keep having problems during install time, try burning at slower speed or using different media.
