Question totem-xine error for VCD

I have installed Totem-xine according to instructions at Stanton-finley website.
It plays WMV movies etc. But when trying to play the VCD which is shown under file it gives the error .
Totem-xine cannot play VCD although the Plug-in is present . Check if CD is there .
The VCD is mounted under /media/New.
'New' is the name of the VCD.
Using FC-5

I have a similar problem with audio CD's. I don't know what causes this but in my case this problem keeps appearing and disappearing.

There is a new kernel available for update. Maybe if you try it and see if it changes something. Sometimes it works for me.

I just checked and no. I can't play VCD and in my case it looks like the problem is Totem-Xine. Here's the thing:

When I insert an audio CD, Totem-Xine starts and the music plays no problem.

When I try a VCD, Totem starts but I get the following message:
Totem was not able to play this disc.
No reason

Then I try a DVD and I get the same message.

However, if instead I use Xine, I can watch the VCD or the DVD no problem.

How about you? Have you tried another player for your VCD?

Just by curiosity. You just said that you have both Totem-Xine and Totem. If you followed Stanton Finley's instructions, you were supposed to remove Totem.

Not a bad idea. Personally, ever since my first day with Linux, Totem or Totem-Xine has always been more annoying than useful. Xine is a much better choice IMHO. I wish you good luck.
