totem???problem

1) make sure you know what backend (engine) your Totem uses. Totem is a front-end for a player, like many others: it means Totem itself won't probably play anything, it's just a nice way to control some other program (possibly command-line) that deals with playing content.
2) download needed plugins or codecs for the backend (engine) that you use and install 3) restart player program if needed Usually the backend player is either Xine or GStreamer. Not sure which one RedHat/Fedora uses, I guess Xine. Both are good, both need extra plugins to play mp3, mpeg, wma, wmv, ... because of "copyright issues" (badass people and lawyers, mainly). Installation of plugin should be fairly easy trough Yum or it's graphical front-end, and precise instructions for the process is found from the web (and probably here at LQ if you care to take a moment with the Search tool found at the top of the page). If there's anything difficult in this matter, it's adding a reposity where the codecs are; probably it's not even that difficult. If I guess right all you need to do is run a single command as root, to tell yum to download and install the codecs. EDIT: about the backend -- you'll know what engine Totem uses by checking out what packages are installed: for example you could have either totem-xine (means it uses Xine engine) or totem-gstreamer (..or it uses GStreamer) installed, or then you could see if you have either xine's libs or gstreamer's libs installed. It might even show it from Totem's info window, but I'm not sure. |
thanks for ur pass b0uncer
