Thunderbird-3.0.1 ??

How to do you enter Content-Type in Attachments in thunderbird ?

I have people sending me pictures I can't open in Thunderbird , it wants me to "Save" them, that has a Content-Type of Octet-Stream and I want enter Gwenview to view this Content-Type.

There is no "Options" in the "Tools" window.

Hi,

You can right-click on the attachment's file name, select "Open with", specify the path to the application you want to use to open such files, check the "Do this automatically for files like this from now on" and you'll be ok.
To modify your settings, go to: Edit->Preferences->Attachments

By right clicking on filename.jpg in Attachments, it gives me the Option to "Open" and I click on that and it only allows me to "Save the File" .

Hi,

You should go to: Edit-->Preferences-->Attachments and see what action you have selected for this kind of attachments. I guess you have selected to save these attachments, so change it to "Always ask" and then when prompted with "Open with..." select you favorite application.

In Edit > preferance > Attachment I checked "Always ask" but After restarting Thunderbird I don't have option of "Open With".

And in Attachments there is no Content-Type of "Octet-Stream" to make changes to.
How do I get the Content-Type of "Octet-Stream" in Attachments ?

Take a look at this article and follow the suggestions to try to fix your problem.

Thanks for the link , but in Thunderbird-3.0.1 > Tools > There is no "Options" Selection.

Checking further in the Website I found that the Tools > Options applies to thunderbird used in Windows.

The Edit -> Preferences applies to Thunderbird used by Linux.

And Edit -> Preferences does not allow me to enter the "Content"
Octet-Stream. Surely there has to be a way user can enter "Content" in Attachments.

Have you tried to delete (or move somwhere else) mimeTypes.rdf, so it will be created again.
Since you're using FC, maybe this extension could be of help, but keep in mind that i'ts still experimental.

I sent the mimeTypes.rdf to the trash for save keeping and restarted to put some of them back, everything works with "Open With" but the Content Type of Octet-Stream it doesn't work, it still wants to save the file.jpg that is Attached.

But in thunderbird Source the file.jpg is shown as a Octet-Stream.

If I "Save" each file.jpg into my home directory, in KDE, File Accociations, Octet-Stream is set to open each with Gwenwiew.

I guess the last resort is to try and Edit mimeTypes.rdf file and enter the Content Type as Octet-Stream and see if it will work.
