well i was a happy camper when i started with Fedora 10. then i went to Fedora 11. after getting everything up and runing and up to date, Fedora 11 froze constantly---on my dual boot laptop with Win7. i never got any answers as to why or what i could do to fix it. after going to the fedoraforums.com to get help and complaining for the third time, an admin there took exception (and took it personnal--Leigh somebody?)and banned me. he was quick to judge but not quick to help. as i was finally generating some people to help, i was banned. he can go to h***
so i am going with Ubuntu, surely it won't freeze. too bad after 5 months with Fedora. a warning shoutout for this Leigh dood.
Generally there are forum rules that need to be followed. Every forum has their own way of handling things.
Plus, if no one replies to your topic it either means they don't know the answer or you have written something poorly.
Interesting to hear of your plight.
I never had any problems with Fedora 10 but have had intermittant problems since installing Fedora 11.
My system intermittantly freezes (I have display but no keyboard or mouse) and sometimes it just powers off.
It is a deskside system, and thus far all suggestions have been that I have a hardware fault, but can't track it down.
I can understand your frustration.
I would like to stay with Fedora, and am hoping that things might be better with 12.
Well, we keep hearing that newbies are not treated well at fedoraforum.org. I myself was treated badly at fedora irc channel. Not that they are bad but may not have patience required to deal with noobs like us. Hope you were not asking for help in the same tone as your post
If you want to try Ubuntu go ahead. But I did not have good experience with 9.10. On the otherhand Fedora 12 is solid. F12 is byfar the best release they say. Give it a try.
i don't wanna cry sour grapes but was very frustrated with Fed 11. and it is amazing that all those people there have no problem with Fed11 and or don't have an answer(especially the admin?). thats crazy but possible i guess. they need new admins IMO.....
i did not have that problem with Fed 10. now 12 is out. it seems a bit strange how Fed12 came out so fast. or maybe some are just not admitting 11 was a turkey. and not a thanksgiving turkey. (:
i will moniter 12 from afar cause i did like Fedora---and want to use it again after the bugathon is over....
so far, Ubuntu is working for me. this is my 4th distro so mah fingers are crossed....

well as far as a noob is concerned, i started using Linux 5 years ago---! not new but not a guru either....
so F12 is good for you? how long have you had it loaded and has it crashed or froze? i haven't given up on it. just F11.....
Oops, sorry to have come to a hasty conclusion that you are a newbie like me.
Ya, F12 is good. I have it since RC (1 or 2 ?). So far so good, except that it does not come with OpenOffice and the usual media support issue. You can give it a try. Btw, am currently fiddling with openSUSE. This one is solid too.
For my home desktop, I was using Ubuntu 9.10... I tried every Fedora release since version 7 and one reason or another I always ended up back with Ubuntu...
In my view, Fedora 7 through 11 was "crap" and a waste of time... (YMMV)
I agree with saivin tho... For Fedora 12, I gotta say WOW!! They got it right... at last..
lenny45.. I highly recommend you kibosh F11 and try F12.. Its kernel is newer than the one in Ubuntu 9.10... And a newer kernel should help you with your new laptop.. (assuming it's new because you got Dos7 loaded on it).

ok, if you guys say its good i'll give F12 a shot. right now Ubuntu is very good and responsive. i started with Mepis 3,4,5(i think),PCLinux 2007 and 9,Fedora 10,11 and now finally Ubuntu 9.10---of which i was always curious.
PCLinux was flawless and was going back to it but got curious about Ubuntu.
i'll try and squeeze in F12 and report back. thx and i think Monday is finally over....
