Thinkpad 600 sound issues

This problem is boggling me.

I have a ThinkPad 600 that I installed Fedora Core 1 on, its completly updated via synaptic. I cant get sound to work, well, all the sounds. The laptop plays CDs wonderfully, but does not play any other sounds. The soundchip is a cs4237 I believe. I configured it via sndconfig, and thats what enabled it to play CDs. But nothing else! Gah! I've installed ALSA to the best of my knowledge and made sure all the mixer settings went muted. Im just lost on what to do next.

(Keep in mind in a very big linux newbie. I've only had this for....3 days? Never used it before then.)

Anyone care to hold me hand and guide me through this process?
