text mode terminals in init 5

HI

I have a problem where when i enter (ctrl + alt f1) in init 5 to get a terminal the terminal works until it hits the bottom of the screen where it keeps on going but the screen stays right at the top?

any ideas at all would be nice

...???

does not compute. more input.

Which distro are you using?
Which graphic card?
Are you using a plain old VGA textmode (e.g. 80x25, 80x50) or a framebuffer console?

So you switch from your Desktop / X Session to a terminal, is that right?
Then my idea is that your distro is using a framebuffer console (a high-resolution graphic mode) which conflicts with your running X Server when mode-switching.
