sync out of range problem in fedora 3
Hi all,
Iam not able to boot in to my Fedora core 3 which i have installed recently. It is giving problem with Resolution (Sync out of range) when i start the Fedora 3. I tried to chage the display setting of /etc/X11/Xconfig file. But i could not chage it via vi editor.I think i could have chage the read/write permissions . If any one know the solution plz specify . and what is the value of the Horizsync ,Vertsync for 800 by 600 resolution Thanks |
Hi,
you must edit /etc/X11/"Xconfig-file" as root, then restart X-server! check: Section "Monitor" HorizSync 23.0 - 86.0 VertRefresh 50.0 - 120.0 both values depend on your hardware. under section "screen" -> subsection "display" you specify your resolution. |
Thanq Lord,
My monitor model is Samsung Samtron 56v I dont know exact values of Sync for this monitor, can u specify the values of Horizsync and vertsync for 800x600 resolution? Thanq once again |
puuh, look at your monitor specification, perhaps your monitot has a sticker on its back?!?
...or google for it. |
ok Thanq...for ur help.. bye

Hi Guys,
I'm very new to UNIX and Linux...i'm taking a linux class so i decided to install UNIX on my desktop computer. Last night i managed to install fedora core 3 onto my desktop (which has two partitions, one winxp and the other fedora 3). I was able to play around after the install (maybe a little too much) and i ended up changing the screen resolution for my LCD screen. Unfortunately, i think i made the resolution too high, now i'm unable to see the desktop when i boot up the system. I get "out of range" screen, I read this thread and got a little hope that i might be able to change the resolution through command mode but i have no clue how to get to command mode to access the /etc/X11/Xconfig file. I would appreciate any help on this since i have no clue where to even begin. Thank you Rob |
