Switching Soundcards
Hi,
Well it turns out that FC5 doesn't support my onboard AD1986 audio so I went out and bought the cheapest card I could find...the SB16 PCI. I read somewhere that ALSA supported SB16 so that's why I got it.
I disabled my onboard audio and installed my SB16 PCI card but FC5 doesn't detect my new card. It still keeps thinking I still have my AD1986.
I tried "modprobe snd-sb16" and "modprobe snd-card-sb16", both giving me "FATAL: Module snd_card_sb16 not found"
I also tried opening up the detection window again through the GUI but it keeps detecting my onboard audio even though it's disabled.
I tried alsaconf. At first I didn't have it so I downloaded the alsa-drivers and ran it like that. Alsaconf gives errors saying something about not being able to open some detection command etc. It's probably not installed properly.
I tried editing my /etc/modprobe.conf manually using configurations found on the net and the alsa-project website but this doesn't help either. It still keeps thinking I still have snd-intel-hdvia (I can't remember the exact name) even though it's disabled.
How can I fix this? I need to get at least one sound card up and running. Btw, my onboard AD1986 audio just plays a loud tone if I play anything so I'm assuming the drivers don't work for this card.
Thanks~
