Switching from KDE to GNOME in FC5?!?!?

I have a linux box that I use for PHP developement/testing. I set my old box up about 5 years ago and used RH6. I just put together a new box and installed Fedora 5. KDE was used by default and I wanted to switch to GNOME and can't figure it out. I don't use a graphical login so there is no option to select GNOME or KDE there, and for some reason when I go to System>Administration>Login Screen it does nothing, which wont bother me as long as i can switch to GNOME. I'm no linux expert, once my old box was setup I didn't do alot other than updating apache/mysql/php packages so I am very sorry to waste your time with a stupid question, but I can't figure it out and I have been searching and ending up with only partially relevent results that don't answer my question.

Here are a few things that haven't worked:
*/etc/sysconfig/desktop - This was initially blank, I added DESKTOP="GNOME" and DISPLAYMANAGER=GNOME and rebooted and nothing.
*SWITCHDESK - Not in FC5 apparently!! command not found.
*I couldn't find any ".xinitrc" file in the /home/(username) directory. Is there a different location I should be checking?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Think you can install "switchdesk" just by asking yum. Worth a try

The lines you put in /etc/sysconfig/desktop should have worked. You can also create your own .xinitrc and put "exec gnome-session" or use switchdesk (after installing it as suggested above).
