hi every body i have slackware 10.2 and win xp
on my computer
i have used core3 before but i didnt like it
eacuse all the time i downloaded packages from the net to play vedio or aduio or others
then i switched to slack
i found all packages and programmes that i need
but it is diffcult and not easy as i thought
then i have heared about core 5
that it is very good
i want to use it and install it on slack
but i am afraid of any problems
i have win xp on c:
and a swap partion and /home ,/ partions for slack
can any body help
Fedora and many mainstream distros based in the States don't ship with multimedia apps. If you need them, you will need to download them from the net, but its easier to add the livna rpm repo to your YUM sources.
As for being afraind that things may go wrong, its always a risk when you try new things. I am sure when you installed Slack there was a risk that things would go wrong but you wne ahead anyway.
now i downloaded the 5 cds from ferora site
and i burned the first image to a cd
i restart the my pc
and the cd1 booted succefuly
i made a test to see if there any errors in it
it raches 75% and told me there is an error it mat be from a bad on the cd
or from corrupted data on the image
so i burned it agin on other cd
it reaches 100% and told me the same error
i chosed to continue to see is the error in the next screen or not
it continuse but i didnt install it
can any body help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you are running the Fedora Core media check, ignore the results because it is known to be buggy. It usually fails for me but the disks work fine.
i have listened to ur word and complete burned the reaminig cds
then i continue with ignoring the errors in the test option
then it said it wants to delete linux partitons(slack) so
i accepted and compled it made a partion lvm or somthing like that then i accepted and after i entered the password of the root
the error happens
"
unable to read package metadata this may be due to missing repodata directory please ensure that your install tree has been correctly generated
faliure:repodata/comps.xml fromanaconda [error ]no more mirrors to try
exit
"
then what can i do now??????????????????????????

I have just checked on the web and it appears that its a common problem with some FC5 media and usually thats due to corrupt isos or media. Had you checked the sha1sums of the discs and compared them with those on the FC mirrors? If I had known you were going to install over your Slack install I would have advised you to install FC5 on a test partition first.
i dont know what is the meaning of sha1sums
but what i did next that i checked the others cds 2,4,5 are good
and 1,3 have errors
and i opened the iso filies on ultraiso programme and they where opened succesfuly
what any errors and i checked the size of the the iso filies all are the same to the mirrors iso filies
then what shall i do next??!!!!!!!!!!!11
The only way I know is to check the sha1sums and compare them with the ones published on the Fedora Core mirrors. I am not sure how to do this in Windows.
