I was finally able to get Rhythmbox (0.6.8) to work on Fedora FC1. I can't get the Internet Radio to work, but at least I'm able to play MP3s now. XMMS is still probably a "better" player, but Rythmbox shows promise.

Here's what I did to get it to work.

1. Added freshrpms.net to Yum.conf

[freshrpms]
name=Fedora Linux $releasever - $basearch - freshrpms
baseurl=http://ayo.freshrpms.net/fedora/linux/$releasever/$basearch/freshrpms

2.
yum install gstreamer
yum install gstreamer-plugins-mp3
yum install rhythmbox

Note: You may or may not need libid3tag. I think I installed this on an earlier attempt at installing Rhythmbox. Yum might find it as a dependency and install it anyway.

For the first time I have found a good alternative to XMMS. Rhythmbox really rocks. The best thing is the TRay Icon. Although a plugin for the same is available for XMMS yet XMMS still shows in the taskbar (in KDE) even though the Tray Icon Plugin is enabled...

I just did a full install and made sure everything was checked to be install., total of 5.4GB and i gave fedora 6GBs. Fedora is a good altnative to windows.

It definately has great potential. I use iTunes on my Mac and Windoze XP, so it's nice to see that a application "similar" is going to be available on Linux. Of course, I'd like to see iTunes be ported to Linux, but Rhythmbox will have to do.

I don't think it sounds as good a XMMS, but that just may be me. I think it's partly because there's no EQ built into it. I dunno.

Development version 0.7.1 is available for compiling, but I haven't found any RPMs for it yet. So... anyone who knows how to create RPM packages...

I love iTunes for windows which i use. and wanted one for linux. I install Fedora and was surprise to see one like iTunes and said this is a must. xmms is the best but i need a nice library to manage all my mp3s and stream then a playlist.

Maybe XMMS will get a song management system someday. It would seem logical since users are collecting thousands and thousands of songs these days.
