Strange sound issues
 

I am running fedora on a dell inspiron 4150.

Everything works fine except the sound on certain programs.

Xmms works fine, i can play mp3's , cd's etc , no problem.

Mplayer, Xine, handle the video portion of any file (.mov,.wmv) just fine but the sound is terrible. It is not clear and theres all these added distortions to it.

I thought i was missing some codecs so i added the win32 codec package .

Same thing.

I tried codeweavers cross over plugin, and installed quicktime and Wmp, and the same problem with sound, its all distorted.

But again xmms works fine .

Has anyone else had similar sound issues with fedora?

I don't have the same problem as you, but you might want to think about installing ALSA drivers.
