Question strange quotes... what do I do?

Hi there,

I using Fedora Core 3 and XFCE.
In every application I tried (including xfterm, jedit, openoffice, nedit), I get strange quotes (ASCII 34)
I enter them by tapping the quotes key twice, the result is some convoluted type of quotes that is not recognised as being the quotes I mean...

I changed the LANG settings - it now says īen_USī

I canīt find any relevant threads on these forums, so I have to ask.

Can anyone help me out here?
Thanks!

Be a little bit more willing to experiment. Does this happen just in X or also in text mode console? Can you reproduce it with twm instead of xfce? If you start a text editor and insert such a quote character there, what hex value appears in the saved file (run "hexdump file")?
