In /etc/modprobe.conf, add this line:
Code:
install ipv6 /bin/true
For Firefox specifically, you can search "ipv6" in the settings (about:config).

This line tells the kernel that the ipv6 module installation will be considered successfull if the /bin/true command is successfull, which it always is.

How about just commenting out the line with ipv6 in it in /etc/modules.conf? That should prevent the module from being loaded at the next boot right?

yea it is also a good point.
but, where this line
Code:
install ipv6 /bin/true
create the entry? Is it created in /etc/modules.conf file?

modules.conf and modules are two old files that were used with 2.4 kernels.
With a 2.6 kernel, the equivalent files are modprobe.conf and modprobe.preload, both in /etc.
Removing ipv6 from /etc/modprobe.preload may not be enough, do to the tendancy in modern software to auto-detect, auto-load, and auto-configure things.
The line I suggested is targetted at /etc/modprobe.conf.

It seems your distribution generates the file from a directory I don't see here, but is probably named /etc/modprobe.d or /etc/modprobe.conf.d.
In this directory, it should be enough to create a new file (eg: "0ipv6", the 0 placing it before the others considering the alphabetical order), with the line I wrote inside.

A reboot is then required.

Yves.

Don't change existing files. Create a new one with the line I gave to you.

Yves.
