Still unsolved APACHE issue.

I have this site up, but apparently no one outside of the Eastern Michigan University network can view it. Is there anyway to configure the httpd config file for apache to allow all requests for this site???

Anyone who can help I'm very appreciative..

I'm running FEDORA 5 if that helps at all..

i can't even ping that address, that makes me think that it's not an external address, is it just the dynamically assigned ip address you get from the DCHP server?

also are you behind a firewall at the uni, that might stop it

Those links do nothing for me because I use a program called XAMPP to install my mySQL PHP5 and APACHE. I can still edit the httpd_config file if there are any viewers that can help me figure this thing out.

Paul? I'm not sure if the university network is behind a firewall. All I know is this website is accessable to viewers within my university, however, it seems outside viewers aren't allowed in.

Do I need to purchase a domain to have a www.(name).com;

okay, this is what i'm going to say, you have an internal IP address, one that is not viewable externally, to be able to launch a website for the rest of the world to see you'll need a ADSL connection, with a static ip address, you'll then need to register your DNS name with one of the 13 primary internet DNS servers ... This seams a little past your understanding at the moment if your not sure what the difference between an internal and external ip address is. you'll defently be behind a firewall in the university and i don't think you could host your own site behind a firewall.

Speak to your IT department before you go attempting to publish sites externally.

Theres probably all kinds of rules and regulations regarding this sort of thing at your uni. Its better to ask questions first than to try it and get caught.

If it's just free web hosting you're looking for, then you may already have it. The University I just graduated from offered free unlimited web space. Two for engineering or business students. Send an email to the CS department, they'll probably know best.
