Members can not delete threads/posts.

Please do not delete the content of your posts. As the saying goes "Wise men learn from their mistakes, but wiser men learn from the mistakes of others."

It looks messy and does not help others who have similar problems.

Ok the best I can remember:

When I uninstalled it with yum and then reinstalled it with dnf, dnf said it was already installed; "nothing to do!" and I was like oh hell. That's not good.

So then I did an

sudo updatedb
locate sshd

And for some reason- I don't know, I wasn't doing it.... hell, I can't remember. I think I was doing:

$ locate sshd.service
/etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/sshd.service
/usr/lib/systemd/system/anaconda-sshd.service
/usr/lib/systemd/system/sshd.service

instead of locate sshd.

Anyway, the fact that yum successfully claimed to uninstall it.... why did dnf say it had nothing to do?

I think the two might be disjointed enough that they have seperate ways for tracking?

Oh and to make matters worse- all the while I was doing this, it was over an ssh session. I mean I guess that makes sense- if you delete a program that already up in ram as a process, it's still running. I don't know, that still seemed weird...

Anyway, the problem was solved before I asked; that's the best I can remember. I guess there's still value there- about deleting something from yum but it still lives in dnf? I don't know.

I like your quote, btw,

rw
