Question soundcard problem -- help!

Hello all,

A rather dumb thing is going on...

My motherboard has a built-in soundcard, and I also have a SoundBlaster Live! installed. But there's no sound. So I go to Soundcard Detection, and there are two tabs, each for each sound card, I suppose.

But here's the thing: If I select the built-in card as Primary audio device, then the "Play test sound" button of the built-in card produces no sound, but that of SoundBlaster does. If I select SoundBlaster as Primary audio device, the opposite happens; the one I choose always creates no sound.

And now that I think of it, it doesn't even make much sense since my speakers are plugged into the SoundBlaster card; the built-in card really shouldn't provide any sound at all.

Help?

post your modules.conf, lsmod, and lspci. Also anything strange in your system log, anything about can't locate sound module or some error.

I have had a lot of trouble installing my creative soundblaster. pci 128. I was able to fix most all problem by installing an alsa driver for it located at www.alsa-project.org
