soundcard detection errors on FC5

I recently upgraded my HP nx9600 laptop from FC4 to FC5. Under FC4 I had problems with the sound (it was as though it was muted), but adding 'snd-intel8x0m' to '/etc/hotplug/blacklist' made it work. Apparently there was a naming conflict between the sound (snd-intel8x0) and the modem (snd-intel8x0m). This solved my issues.

Under FC5, the soundcard isn't being detected. alsamixer won't run. alsaconf produces fatal errors. The name of the blacklist file I worked with before had been changed to blacklist.rpmsave and changing it back had no effect. I am stuck. Can anyone help?

audio, fc5, sound, upgrade
