Unhappy Soundcard configured. It's a problem with HP quickplay?

With reference to my earlier problem about not having sound. I just configured alsamixer successfully and linux says my sound is fine. I just noticed that on my HP notebook, the mute button is on by default at system bootup. I can't unmute once I boot into linux. I think this is because HP quickplay isn't installed. Is there a version for fedora? any ideas on hwo I can solve this problem?
