Unhappy Sound not working on FC2

Hi,

I've just installed FC2 on my Toshiba TE2300 and although the sound card has been detected, whenever I try to use the sound system, it comes up with an error saying that the sound card might not be compatible with redhat.

But when KDE starts up, I get this popup saying:

Sound server information message:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such device)
...

And when I look at dmesg output:
...
request_module: failed /sbin/modprobe -- char-major-21-1. error = 256
inserting floppy driver for 2.6.1-1.65
floppy0: no floppy controllers found
request_module: failed /sbin/modprobe -- char-major-2-0. error = 256
inserting floppy driver for 2.6.1-1.65
floppy0: no floppy controllers found
request_module: failed /sbin/modprobe -- char-major-2. error = 256
kudzu: numerical sysctl 1 49 is obsolete.

Is it a bug of the FC2 T1 that sound doesn't work? Or is it just the drivers not being setup properly?

TIA for your help.

I may be mistaken but I don't think the ALSA sound drivers were included with the kernal that came with FC2.

I had exactly the same experience that you're having with FC2, as did others if you search around this board. I finally gave up on FC2 and downloaded FC1 and upgraded the stuff that I wanted.

Ok, thanks for the info

Maybe I'll unload all the installed drivers and try to see if installing alsa drivers would work.

Cheers,
