Sound is gone completely
 

Greetings: I installed F-16 and had sound with CD player but no sound in external DVD player. I sought advice and help was good. I was able to get sound from DVD player using VLC. But, I had no sound in online browser. I was using Firefox 10.0.01. Had no audio with videos. I installed SeaMonkey. Tried a few attempts at audio in the video. Even installed Opera. I like them both but now I have no sound whatsoever. Can someone help me get back on track, please. Thanks.

Try alsamixer from the shell and check if some of the volume settings was zeroed.
Then adjust the volume and exit with ESC.

Thanks for your quick reply. I went in the Terminal, assuming you meant "alsamixer" rather than alasmixer, I checked all the volume levels and toggled between "mute" and 00 and I chekced to see if the levels could be increased/decreased. Then, I opened the dvd to play it. The video worked immediately, no sound. Thanks.

Well, let's see if I understood: if you play an audio CD it sounds. If you play DVD by using VLC you can hear sound too. The problem is that you have no system sound and no sound in browser (i.e. from Youtube).
Let's see if you can play an audio file from the shell.
Take an audio file (wav, mp3, ogg, what you like more) and try playing it with play command from bash.
Another information, please, are you using Gnome or KDE or what else?

Formerly, I had sound playing an audio CD using Amarok & I had sound and video in VLC, but no sound in my Firefox browser from YouTube or ESPN. So, I tried several attempts downloading, installing; troubleshooting, to no avail. So, now I have no sound whatsoever. I am running Fedora 16 with KDE. I uninstalled Firefox and now running Seamonkey 2.7.xx and I cannot get sound from any device or program. I hope that is enough information to help you help me. Thanks.

Try even change some settings and volume in kmix.

Also, I attempted to open Kmix and it would not open. I removed it from the list and then re-installed. Then, I made an attempt at opening Kmix once again. It failed to open each time. Thanks.

Sorry for my poor explanation: kmix is the KDE mixer you can find in the KDE panel (the applet with a speaker as symbol).
You can right click on that icon and chose "Show Mixer Window" and there change settings by clicking the "mixer" button.

Nope; not a sound (after understanding more clearly what you meant). No sound....Grrr

It could be evan a user misconfigration.
When I'm in doubt if it is often I ceate a new user and login to KDE as the just created new one.
If the issue disappears it is surely a config problem so i check the difference in conf files between the two profiles.
If the issue is still there it can be a system-wide misconfiguration, but knowing this is just a good starting point. :)

I am just all messed up now. I have tried so many troubleshooting attempts. I really do not know what to do next from here. I know assuredly there is a configuration conflict going on. I just don't know. Any suggestions or ideas? Thanks.

First of all: learn from errors!
Next time, back up your configuration files before to manage a change.
I found this even if I don't think it's your case since you can hear sound. Try it and tell us if you solved something.
I think you have problems with flash player plugin.
Install Google Chrome or Chromium that come with a self contained flash plugin. If they can play sounds in flash then the problem is in the plugin.
Since they are not in the official repos follow this guide to install Google Chrome in Fedora 16.
