sound card stop working (emu10k1 driver)

I have been having trouble with my sound card. It worked initially then stopped working after I installed a new kernel(2.6.9-1.667.stk16) to get my wireless network card to work. The sound came back briefly after I tried to install a newer version of the driver(emu10k1-v0.20a). I do not think this worked as many errors showed up. But once I change over from the GNOME desktop to KDE it stopped again and has never worked since. It seems to detect it and when you run any sound programme it looks like it is working, but no sound. I am afraid I have royally screwed it up. It may be best to unistall it and then reinstall it , but I am new to the Linux game and do not know how to do this. Any suggestions.

Gnome uses esound daemon to manage sound and kde uses arts. When you are in kde open xmms and go to options-preferences-output plugin and try to play something with the arts plugin,if that doesn't work open the control center-sound and disable sound system and try xmms again with alsa or the oss output plugin, hope this helps

Sound Card still no luck

Thanks for the help. Still no sound. When I shut down the KDE system it indicated that an error occurred. By the way the sound card is a Labs SB Live and module being run is snd-emu10k1. Does any one know how to reinstall the sound driver.

Thanks again Nincra
