sound card makes scratchi sounds playing .wav files.
hello all,
I have fedora core 4 and alsa 1.0.9 installed on my pc. when I installed the play sound whent right means the sound card testing went fine. now when I try to play any .wav file with the play <filename> command the sound is scratchi. it gives a lot of hissing and scratching sound and I can still hear the file in the bacground mildly. I have the master and pcm volumes to 50%. by the way when I run alsaconf it probed the following sound card. ens1371 Ensoniq ES1371 (Audio PCI-97) (rev 02). any suggestions what I can do? by the way I have also installed fedora core 4 on a virtual pc viz, VMware on windows xp with the same sound card brand. there also this same problem persists. when I play test sound during installation it plays but afterwards the same scratchy sound. by the way I have another sound card which is an on board. I had actually disabled it but after facing this problem I enabled this one and the alsaconf probed for the following. Legacy Probe legacy ISA (non-PnP) chips. same problem here again. any suggestions? these 2 cards are on the same box. I had enabled one and disabled the other at one time and then disabled the first and enabled the on bord one. so at one time only one card is active. I did this through the bios. thanks, Krishnakant. |
